I urge everyone in this session to take a moment and imagine their own beloved hometowns covered in sand and dust. Environmentalconditions for the Iranian people in terms of clean air have deteriorated to dangerous measures because of negative effects of SDS.

Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen, Relevant UN reports indicate that over 25000 Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTFs) had gone to Syria from over 100 Member States. This figure demonstrates that the threats related to the FTFs is complicated and multi-faceted and needs urgent attention of the international community. Statement by H.E Gh. Khoshroo Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN In “the High-Level Conference of the Heads of Agencies combating Terrorism” Second Panel: Combatting the evolving threat from Foreign Terrorist Fighters (New York, 28-29 June 2018)
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen, Relevant UN reports indicate that over 25000 Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTFs) had gone to Syria from over 100 Member States. This figure demonstrates that the threats related to the FTFs is complicated and multi-faceted and needs urgent attention of the international community. As our world increasingly recognizes no borders, all parts of the world are being more or less threatened by this spreading scourge. In analyzing the root causes of joining of individuals to FTFs, while we agree that such factors as dictatorship, poverty, corruption and discrimination could serve as contributing factors under certain circumstances; abundant experience and facts clearly show that only a destructive ideology could turn an otherwise peaceful human into a destructive being. This dark extremist Ideology is commonly used to legitimize acts of violence and cannot be eliminated only through military, political, or economic means. Any effective strategy against FTFs must entail in the first place a major cultural and ideological component.
